All I Want for Christmas Is A Synthesizer

by Evripidis and his Tragedies

He ran away December the first Without a farewell kiss So this year, dear Santa I only have one wish All I want for Christmas is a synthesizer New sounds that could blow my mind away Modulators, oscillators, equalizers With a little LFO It’s not so hard to let him go All I want is electronic bliss I couldn’t ride the beast of your heart But I will ride these waveforms, master this art While everyone is getting drunk at stupid parties I will be locked in my room like a mad scientist Creating the soundtrack to my future glory All I want for Christmas is a synthesizer New sounds that could blow my mind away Modulators Oscillators Equalizers Arpeggiators All I want for Christmas is a synthesizer new sounds that could blow my mind away Modulators, oscillators, equalizers Once I have a brand new pad things Won’t be looking quite as bad All I want is electronic bliss And maybe tranquilizers

about

Evripidis of Evripidis and His Tragedies has always had a soft spot for Christmas songs but strangely enough he had never recorded one until recently. At his boyfriend’s insistence (Marc Ribera from much loved pop ensemble Doble Pletina) they sat together in winter 2018 and made “All I Want for Christmas Is a Synthesizer”. Evripidis wrote the music and words, Marc produced and they invited long-time collaborator and dear friend Eliza Ariadne Kalfa to sing along and contribute to the lyrics. After a merry evening, the bulk of the song was finished. Marc made an animation video and the home recording was released to the world nonchalantly.
One year afterwards Evripidis re-recorded his voice with producer-singer/songwriter Elsa de Alfonso, Sergio Pérez (SVPER) mixed the song and Philip Granqvist did the mastering, turning the modest lo-fi recording into a dance floor synth pop killer.
The song is a humorous reflection on Evripidis and His Tragedies’ sense of drama and his changing sound, shifting from the piano-driven, orchestral pop of his previous works towards a synthesiser-based sound.

The EP includes vocal and instrumental version.

about

Evripidis and his Tragedies Barcelona, Spain

Evripidis and His Tragedies is Evripidis Sabatis. The "Tragedies" are the devastating, confessional, self-sarcastic, darkly humorous songs that draw on his classical piano training, queer sensibility and storytelling skills to examine and own up to the vicissitudes of life. Evripidis' pop inclinations take us for a bumpy, dancey ride across the fine line between tragedy and joie de vivre. ... more
