Cadaqués

by Evripidis and his Tragedies

/

about

Cadaqués is a piano-driven, richly textured song with a compelling choral crescendo that evokes the ghosts of those lost at sea and those amours that the heart never forgets, lovely yet doomed. It's a song that haunts us, where two lovers, a stormy affair and the homonymous remote Catalan seaside town spirit us away. Recorded with a plethora of musicians from BCN’s music scene, its lyrics feature in the book “El Calamor y otros mitos de la Intimidad". It was recorded during the sessions of "A Healthy Dose of Pain" and was performed live many times through the years but it had remained unreleased until now.

lyrics

Cadaqués

We took your daddy’s car and drove north
To that seaside town
We had never spent a weekend together
But we decided to give it a try
We arrived in the middle of night
With our heads full of ghosts, full of serial killers
But then you came on me on a beach
And we walked and talked and saw the colours of dawn

We only referenced love
When we talked about things from the past
But I’ve rarely seen a dawn as bright
As the one I saw with you
In that seaside town

It’s strange how tenderness can be born
Among rocks that sharp and waves that wild
How many things can be told with a kiss
On the back of the neck and a holding of hands
We decided to stay one more night
Who would go back to city lights
With all these stars above?
We got drunk to cheap cocktails
And walked back and forth those steep narrow streets

We only referenced love
When we talked about things from the past
But I’ve rarely seen a moon as bright
As the one I saw with you
In that seaside town

Driving back I didn’t say a word,
I’d rather hum to some tearjerkers
You tried hard to cheer me up but it was vain
I couldn’t help feeling gloomy
I knew one day we’d fall apart
And our little romance would just just fade into dust
All that’s left now are some photos
Where we look sunburnt and foolishly happy

We only referenced love
When we talked about things from the past
But I’ve rarely seen stars as bright
As the ones I saw with you.

We only referenced love
When we talked about things from the past
But I’ve rarely felt more in love
Than when I was strolling around with you
In Cadaqués

about

Evripidis and his Tragedies Barcelona, Spain

Evripidis and His Tragedies is Evripidis Sabatis. The "Tragedies" are the devastating, confessional, self-sarcastic, darkly humorous songs that draw on his classical piano training, queer sensibility and storytelling skills to examine and own up to the vicissitudes of life. Evripidis' pop inclinations take us for a bumpy, dancey ride across the fine line between tragedy and joie de vivre. ... more
